The master teacher should bring energy and curriculum development skills to the math department by being able to teach math effectively and passionately. Other responsibilities and necessary competencies include the following:
Demonstrating a passion for the math and its real-world applications
Exhibiting excellent teaching skills that demonstrate best practice
Willingness and ability to teach all levels of middle school math through geometry
Teaching 5 classes, likely to include Algebra 1 and other courses across the curriculum based on interest and ability
Understanding the development of middle-school students and possessing a passion for working with this age group
Connecting with students, challenging them, and shifting pedagogical practice to meet the needs of diverse learners
Demonstrating a growth mindset, the ability to give and receive feedback, and willingness to become a valued colleague in a strong and cohesive community
Working with grade-level colleagues to plan and coordinate all content, activities, and grading for each class; working with colleagues to create vertical alignment
Advising 10-14 students and facilitating the “Lead from Here” curriculum; meeting with parents of advisees
Interacting effectively with parents, colleagues, and members of the leadership team
Demonstrating effective technology skills in the classroom and through our learning management system
Participating in other aspects of the School community. Coaching a sport is highly desirable.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Math or Math Education; MA or MEd highly desirable; previous teaching experience in an independent school setting preferred.
