Lakeside School, an independent coeducational day school located in North Seattle, is currently recruiting for a part time middle school history teacher (.75 FTE) to begin in late August 2018.
The History Teacher, reporting to the Middle School History Department Head and the Middle School Division Director, will join a highly collaborative department that consists of five faculty members. Specific responsibilities include:
Teach three sections of middle school history students about world geography, early complex societies, American history, current events, and how to conduct historical research;
Provide academic support for students outside of class time (answer homework questions, provide extra writing help, etc.), as needed;
Active collaboration and participation in the work of the History Department on innovative curriculum development, pedagogy, and assessment;
Attend History Department, grade-level team and faculty meetings as scheduled;
Act as an advisor for Middle School students;
Participate in the life of the school community which includes grade-level outings, admissions events, and engagement with student life.

Requirements and Qualifications
A successful candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in History, social studies, or a closely related field (Master’s degree is preferred); have a minimum of three years’ experience teaching History, preferably to Middle School students; have a passion for interacting with middle school level students in and outside of the classroom; and thrive in a highly collaborative work environment that values innovation and creativity. Candidates must possess the ability to use technology to enhance the classroom experience and to use a range of resources that represent diverse cultures, experiences, and viewpoints. Candidates must satisfactorily complete a nationwide criminal background check and a Washington State Patrol background check.
