The Director of General Studies reports to the Head of School and supervises all teaching and learning in the college preparatory side of the school’s dual curriculum. He or she oversees the English, History, Math, and Science department chairs while working very closely with the Director of Judaic Studies and the Dean of Students to ensure the effective and efficient running of the high school’s day to day educational program. He or she is responsible for determining the General Studies scope and sequence, curriculum development, professional development, class schedule, and student placement. Together with the Director of Judaic Studies and the Dean of Students, the Director of General Studies sets the high school calendar, organizes and oversees parent-teacher conferences, progress reports and the online grade management portal, as well special programs and events such as STEM Days, Shakespeare Day, and a variety of field trips. He or she is also expected to play an integral role in the school’s social-emotional education program, assist with disciplinary matters, and act as the primary address for students and parents who have concerns about the General Studies program. The Director of General Studies is also expected to teach up to 10 periods per week.
Appropriate candidates must demonstrate the ability to uphold Kohelet Yeshiva High School’s high standards of academic excellence while leading a talented and dedicated faculty toward greater integration of 21st century skills and progressive pedagogy.

Passion for working with kids and helping them grow
A Masters Degree or PhD in a relevant field
Experience as a secondary school educational leader
Familiarity with the culture of a Yeshiva High School
Outstanding people and communication skills
High levels of organization and efficiency
Deep understanding of college preparatory curricula and progressive pedagogy
Proven ability to work in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment
