The Kinkaid School is seeking an enthusiastic Teacher with a passion for students to serve as a 8th grade Middle School Science Teacher (Physics and Chemistry) starting August 2018.
The Kinkaid School is a co-educational, nonsectarian day school enrolling 1,400 students in pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade. Located on a sixty-five-acre campus in the heart of Houston, Texas, the school offers a thriving intellectual community in the midst of a vibrant, urban and diverse culture. With enrollment of about 450, the Middle School fosters a learning environment centered on academic excellence, intellectual curiosity, and personal growth and attention. The Middle School faculty enjoys small class sizes and a collegial, collaborative environment centered on team work and continuous professional development.
Kinkaid's Middle School Science curriculum includes General, Earth, Life and Physical sciences. The ideal candidate should demonstrate an affinity for working with middle school students teaching including 8th grade Integrated Physics and Chemistry (IPC). Additionally, experience with project-based learning, STEM or engineering design or robotics would be a plus. The teacher will also advise a small group of students and be a member of one or more grade level teams. Kinkaid teachers enjoy a supportive teaching environment focused on collegiality and academic excellence. Additional responsibilities may include sponsoring a club or coaching a sport. This is contingent upon the candidate’s interest and skill set as well as the School’s needs. The Middle School Science teacher must be able to teach a total of approximately 75students.
A Bachelor’s degree in science or pedagogy with an emphasis on science education (Master’s degree preferred)
A minimum of three years of experience teaching science to middle school children.
Proven understanding and ability to teach Integrated Physics Chemistry
Experience with project based learning, engineering design or robotics a plus
Ability to incorporate inquiry into instructional strategies to create student centered problem solving approach to learning
Proficient use of Microsoft Office, Google Drive, Docs, Spreadsheet
Familiarity with Logger Pro or Graphical Analysis preferred
Core knowledge of development of middle school age children
Core knowledge about research-based practices for effective instruction of the middle school age learner
A passion for and experience with integrating technology into the curriculum to serve the needs of all learners
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
