The Middle School seeks an Eighth Grade Physical Sciences teacher. This teacher will lead four sections of an introductory level Physical Science class that focuses on force, motion and Newton’s Laws, as well as classification of matter, physical and chemical properties, and physical and chemical changes. The curriculum for this course is project-based and emphasizes collaboration, writing evidence based conclusions and creating and reading graphs. The ideal candidate is passionate about Science and is eager to support Middle School aged students in learning how to take an active role in their own learning. We are looking for candidates who have also demonstrated a commitment to fostering diversity and inclusion, within and outside the classroom. Masters is eager to consider application from traditionally underrepresented groups.
Teach 4 sections of 8th grade Science
Successfully engage and develop student’s interest and enthusiasm for the subject matter
Serve as an advisor to 8-10 students.
Participate in extra/co-curricular program as a coach or club supervisor.
Provide supervision during recess, in study hall and in other moments of the school day, as needed
Attend 8th grade team meeting and Middle School faculty meetings
Participate in the life of the Middle School by attending full group activities including morning meeting, student presentations and performances and culminating events
Understanding of and desire to work with middle school students
Familiar with and willing to explore student-centered pedagogical approaches
Proven ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Energy, enthusiasm and curiosity – willingness to be a fellow learner with students
Proficient in the use of technology
Bachelor’s degree in Science and/or Science education required, Masters preferred
Prior teaching experience with middle school-aged students
Demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion and a high degree of cultural competency
Interest in being an active member of The Masters School community, such as advising, student life, leading a student club, or coach of a team
