This senior leadership position oversees the school’s Advancement team and program, including visioning, goal-setting, and strategic direction for annual and capital philanthropy, marketing and communications, enrollment management, and parent and alumni engagement. Provide leadership in implementing the school’s comprehensive development strategy to maximize the annual Fund for Excellence, capital campaigns, endowment, grants, special projects, underwriting, and planned giving
Articulate a strong and compelling case to support the mission of Oak Hall School
Develop and implement creative strategies for growing overall philanthropic support and stakeholder engagement; nurture a culture of giving
Work closely with the Board Advancement Committee, the Head of School, the Advancement team members, and other stakeholders to develop, implement, and achieve strategic goals and initiatives for fundraising, alumni engagement, parent relations, and data management; ensure short and long term success of all advancement efforts
Cultivate, steward, and build authentic relationships with donors, prospects, and stakeholders
Effectively plan and collaborate with the Marketing and Communications Coordinator to ensure that all materials adhere to and enhance the school’s brand and standards, and that all communications are on message and timely
Supervise, set direction, and support the goals for each member of the Advancement team. Ensure that each team member understands his/her responsibilities and objectives, and measures of success.
Promote a growth mindset among the Advancement team, encouraging risk-taking, innovative practices, inclusion, respect, and strong connection to mission and articulated outcomes of the school
Work collaboratively with other members of the One School senior leadership team to make decisions and develop policies to advance the mission of the school
Develop and write grants for foundations and corporate support when appropriate
Utilize data analytics to assess and evaluate the effectiveness of advancement activities, adjusting strategies and implementation as needed
Regularly attend sporting events, music and theater productions, art shows, and other school events; be a known presence and active participant in the greater school community
Oversees management of gift processing and donor acknowledgement, the donor database, and financial reporting
Provide guidance to parents working on special events and other fundraising programs as needed
Be a role model of integrity and professionalism
Qualifications and Skills:
5 years of fundraising and direct solicitation experience required, 10 years preferred
5 years of Advancement/Development leadership experience preferred
Experience within an independent school community preferred
Bachelor’s degree required, master’s degree, IAP, CFRE, or other fundraising credentials preferred
Must be experienced and confident working with and relating to high net-worth individuals.
Demonstrated ability to cultivate and close significant gifts
A compelling story-teller who inspires confidence in the school’s mission with authentic enthusiasm
An optimistic, engaging, and caring demeanor, coupled with a goal-oriented drive to succeed
Superb ability to communicate effectively with all constituents in a school environment, both verbally and in writing, and possess strong listening skills
Ability to forecast, collect, evaluate, and analyze data
A minimum of 5 years supervisory experience within the field of development; the ability to manage, inspire, and mentor a diverse staff
Demonstrated planning, organizational, and time-management skills to effectively prioritize multiple initiatives simultaneously and achieve desired goals and successful outcomes within defined periods of time
Working knowledge of development best practices, trends in (independent school) education and development, fundraising tools and technology, including e-mail and online campaigns, and donor research
Strong computer skills, particularly with relational databases, presentation software, and analytical software, Raiser’s Edge experience preferred
Extreme tact and discretion, acute attention to detail, and a commitment to excellence
A high degree of professionalism, collegiality, and personal conduct both in and outside of school
