McLean School (www.mcleanschool.org), a K-12 co-educational independent school in Potomac, Maryland, seeks applicants for the full-time position for a Middle School (Grades 5-8) Learning Specialist to begin August 2018. McLean School has for over sixty-five years been helping students realize their full potential by providing a comprehensive college preparatory program that emphasizes small classes and differentiated instruction. We embrace both traditional learners and ones with mild to moderate learning challenges. Many of our students excel in some areas while benefiting from support in others.
The Middle School Learning Specialist will have an appreciation for students with mild to moderate learning challenges, and seek to build self-confidence in our students as they learn to advocate and to prepare for success in college and life. The Middle School Learning Specialist works with students, teachers, and parents to support the needs of a variety of learners, assists teachers and other faculty with best practices, assesses student needs and abilities to produce useful strategies, helps to implement and assure accommodations are utilized, and works with the administration to further the mission of the school. Most important, he or she will subscribe to McLean School’s Core Values, our Mission, and our philosophy, and will seek passionately to uphold and promote them.
Candidates should have experience working with students with learning, attentional, and organizational challenges. Candidates must have strong written, oral and interpersonal communication skills.
