Trinity School, a coeducational, K-12 institution located on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, seeks candidates to oversee its Lower School math program, beginning in September 2018.
The Lower School Math Coordinator will:
Review and oversee the Lower School math curriculum, pedagogy, and instruction, ensuring consistency, continuity, and coherence within and across grade?
Work with Lower School teachers in unit and lesson planning in order to encourage implementation of best practices in the area of mathematics instruction. Create and monitor the math calendars with the other math specialist.
Collaborate with the Lower School Principal and Assistant Principal, the Middle and Upper School Math Department Head, and the Assistant Head of School for Academic Affairs to develop a coherent, rich, sound K-12 math curriculum.
Lead math lessons with the intent of modeling exemplary math instruction, work with small groups and individual students for enrichment as well as remediation.
The ideal candidate will be an exemplary Math teacher with curricular and pedagogical expertise in Lower and Middle-school math education; a skilled administrator attentive to the needs of teachers as well as to the needs and culture of the division and school; an effective facilitator of professional collaboration; an approachable, supportive, trusted colleague who possesses intellectual curiosity, an openness to others’ ideas, flexibility in approaches to teaching; strong organizational skills; and a sense of humor. The school seeks candidates who bring significant professional experience and wisdom designing coherent math curriculum, as well as experience with a variety of math curricula including, but not limited to, Singapore Math and other pedagogical approaches that serve Lower as well as Middle and Upper School students. The strongest candidates will also have experience working with faculty members and students in an accelerated learning context that values both constructivist and traditional mathematical skills and philosophy. Working in concert with the Grade K-2 Math Specialist, this individual will also serve as the primary math instructional specialist working with students and teachers in Grades 2-5. Other pertinent skills include intellectual curiosity, strong leadership skills, effective communication skills, commitment to ongoing professional development, and the ability to inspire an appreciation for mathematics among faculty and students alike.
The successful candidate will have a Master's degree in a relevant discipline and at least ten years of relevant teaching experience.
