Dwight School, located on the Upper West Side, is looking for a passionate, innovative and tech orientated Director of Library Services to oversee our dynamic library team for the 2018-2019 school year. The Director will report to the Head of School and work closely with our Division Heads across the Pre-K-12 spectrum. They should have experience with research technologies and have demonstrated the ability to work and teach across many academic boundaries. The Director will collaborate with academic department chairs and in particular the Information Technology department to ensure that the library and academic programs are in alignment with the school’s mission.
Responsibilities the of position:
Administration of the library and research programs including managing the catalog and maintaining collections, databases and subscriptions.
Supervision of the library team including setting professional goals and overseeing programmatic initiatives.
Provide instruction in research skills and library literacy, partnering with faculty to facilitate student research assignments. Undertake regularly scheduled Research classes in 6th and 11th grades, as well as regular push-ins to all other grades as coordinated with subject teachers.
Communicate with students’ advisors, parents, and teachers as appropriate.
Participate in school-wide functions and events
Manages library budgeting and expenses
Ensures that the library curriculum and services scaffold appropriately through grades and divisions
Provides overall direction for library programming
Provide individual support to students as needed.
Lead co-curricular activities.
Serve as a member of the advising team and advise a group of 8-10 students.
Hold a minimum of a master’s degree in Librarianship/Information Sciences from an accredited ALA program.
Have a minimum of five years of professional library experience.
Be an accomplished supervisor and demonstrate excellence in teaching research and information literacy.
Have a strong desire to contribute to a collaborative faculty.
Have a sound knowledge of Google Suite, a proficiency and ease with online learning-management. systems, and enthusiasm for experimenting with learning technologies.
Have patience, enthusiasm, and the ability to manage priorities and meet deadlines.
Experience working in an International Baccalaureate school is desired but not a requirement.
