Founded in 1999 Williamsburg Northside Schools is private, independent school located in the culturally dynamic and diverse Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn. Today WNS offers two distinct programs in neighboring locations serving students nursery through fifth grade.
Starting in September 2018 Northside is expanding. A new middle school beginning with fifth and sixth grades is opening and ultimately expanding through to the eighth grade in 2020. Williamsburg Northside operates under the MetSchools umbrella, a network of private schools in New York City.
WNS is seeking an experienced middle school social studies/history teacher for grades 5 and 6 committed to inquiry, rigor and student collaboration. As a founding member of the middle school team this position requires interest in curriculum development and working collaboratively.
Teach sections of fifth and sixth grade social studies/history.
Employ progressive pedagogy including inquiry, collaborative projects, and student research.
Incorporate literacy goals and research skills.
Collaborate across disciplines.
Communicate student progress clearly and effectively to students, parents and faculty
Advise a group of 10-12 students
Advise or assist with a club or activity
Attend at community events throughout the school year
Participate in ongoing professional development
Experience teaching social studies, history or humanities, preferably in a middle school or upper elementary setting
Commitment to progressive education practices and hands-on, inquiry-based approach
B.A. in an appropriate content area required. Masters’ degree preferred.
