Moravian Academy is seeking a dynamic, collaborative, and innovative fulltime Middle School Science teacher for the 2018-2019 school year to teach sixth grade science. This teacher will be responsible for designing and implementing science curriculum for courses in a collaborative department of colleagues. This is an exciting opportunity to join an established program and to work with a dedicated team of professionals. The sixth grade course is a study of life science. The major units include scientific inquiry, metric system, cell biology, scientific classification, the five kingdoms, zoology, human biology, and genetics. The students learn proper digital microscope techniques throughout the year, and perform a variety of animal dissections during the study of the animal kingdom.
Duties and Responsibilities
Design and deliver four sections of sixth grade life science classes, which is a required core class for all students
Teach one elective section
Lead an advisory group of 8-12 students
Facilitate hands on exploration, student collaboration and problem solving; integrate student-centered pedagogical practices into the curriculum
Create meaningful partnerships with parents and families, including regular communications through school supplied online tools, emails, and phone calls
Participate in professional collaboration with departmental colleagues
Assess and provide feedback to students and parents during comment and grading periods

A Bachelor’s degree in science or related field required; Master’s degree preferred
Three to five years of teaching experience
Preference will be given to applicants with a previous background in independent schools or similar college preparatory programs
