Winston Preparatory School is a co-ed day school for 4th through 12th-grade students with learning differences such as dyslexia, nonverbal learning disabilities, expressive or receptive language disorders and executive functioning problems. Our mission is to facilitate the independence of individuals with learning difficulties through assessment driven individualized education, research and outreach. Our unique educational program for middle and upper school students with learning differences is designed to develop essential skills and challenge his or her strengths. This is our sixteenth year of our highly successful “Focus Program,” in which each student receives a daily period of one-to-one instruction concentrating on his or her greatest area of need. The implementation of the program has allowed us to further personalize instruction and strategies so that our students can better understand themselves, as well as verbalize their needs to become independent learners. We are searching for excellent candidates for full-time Focus Teachers (one-on-one) as well as content area classroom teachers at the Winston Preparatory School NJ for the coming school year (2018-2019). Focus teachers provide individualized remediation for students struggling with a wide range of learning differences, while coordinating and facilitating consistent communication between classroom teachers and families.
The nature of the position allows for someone with a varied background. Currently, our Focus staff includes social workers, reading specialists, speech therapists, learning specialists, school psychologists, as well as former lawyers and copy editors. The successful candidate will be a highly professional, creative thinker who is flexible and works well within a team environment. Candidates must also have excellent writing and communication skills. Our classroom teachers have equally diverse and interesting backgrounds.

Winston Prep is a highly individualized and responsive setting for high-potential middle and high school students with learning differences such as language based learning disabilities, nonverbal learning disabilities and executive functioning difficulties, with campuses operating in Manhattan, Norwalk, CT and Whippany, NJ. The Winston Prep program is designed to challenge each student's strengths while developing the essentials of reading, writing, mathematics, organization and study skills. Each individualized education program is based upon a continuously modified understanding of the student's learning profile that evolves as the student progresses and matures. Students participate in a daily one-to-one session called Focus, designed to serve as the diagnostic, instructional and mentoring centerpiece of their experience. At the high school level, students with appropriate levels of skill mastery may participate in college courses.
