Trinity Valley School seeks a full-time middle school Drama teacher to carry on the long tradition of excellence and grandeur within the middle school program. In seventh and eighth grades, all students take Creative Dramatics as a part of our fine arts rotation, which also includes Visual Art and Choir. These classes offer a general overview of the world of theater, focusing on personal development as an actor and as a theater enthusiast. Some specific objectives include growth and expression through the creative process, focusing creative energies, working alone and in groups, and developing creative expression in acting and in theater production. Students also gain an awareness of historical and cultural heritage through the study of Classical and Elizabethan theater.
In addition, the middle school drama teacher coordinates after-school drama club for fifth and sixth grades, directs a fifth/sixth grade and a seventh/eighth grade musical production. With a robust budget, these shows often include sixty to one hundred middle school students and an upper school technical crew and involve numerous parent volunteers.
Candidates for this position should possess the following qualities: a passion for teaching middle school children, extensive teaching and directing experience, the ability to create an environment where students feel safe taking creative risks, enthusiasm for the dramatic arts, knowledge of varied pedagogy, the desire to work closely with a team of talented teachers, and the leadership qualities to inspire, motivate, and develop the best in students. Successful candidates will be flexible, team-oriented and caring while having the ability to hold students to high expectations in academic and co-curricular endeavors and behavior. A sense of humor appropriate for teaching middle school aged students will be a plus. In addition to teaching duties, all of our middle school teachers serve as advisors and attend the grade-level outdoor trip (TOE). There may also be coaching duties available for qualified and interested applicants.
