Burgundy Farm Country Day School is a progressive school on a 25-acre campus in Alexandria, Virginia, serving 285 children in junior kindergarten through 8th grade. For more, visit www.burgundyfarm.org. The Burgundy library functions as the curricular center of the school and is staffed by two full time librarians aided by parent volunteers. It contains over 18,000 items, including books, videos, and online databases, and has a monthly circulation in excess of 2,000 items. Position Description: Technology and library services are integrated at Burgundy. The two librarians team with two full time technology personnel from the attached computer lab. The library and technology center are centrally located in one building, which is a hub for teaching and learning at Burgundy. Classes come to the library once a week on a fixed schedule. Both librarians are responsible for teaching library classes to early childhood, elementary, and/or middle school students. Class and grade level responsibilities are divided and shared based on interest and prior experience. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: - Collaborating with teachers to develop and implement an information literacy, research skills, and project-based curriculum
- Participation in annual summer curriculum work
- Collection development (especially as it relates to the librarian’s integral role in curriculum development)
- Staying current with new books, technology, and school library trends and issues
- Coordinating teaching of research and skills with technology staff
- Working with parent volunteers
The qualified candidate will have: The successful candidate should be a collaborative, creative, flexible, and energetic lifelong learner who values ongoing professional growth. He or she should demonstrate a love of children’s literature and an interest in integrating technology, and enjoy working with students and teachers. Applicants should possess excellent organizational skills, be attentive to detail, and ideally have prior experience working in a school library and teaching early childhood, elementary, or middle school students. Applicants with an MLS degree are preferred. Salary and Benefits - Salary commensurate with experience.
- Burgundy Farm Country Day School will contribute $7,400 each plan year to each full-time employee’s benefits bank and prorate for employees who work at a minimum 75% of full-time, via our Section 125 Cafeteria Plan. This benefit may be taken as payment toward the school’s medical/dental/vision plans; dependent care expenses, subject to an IRS imposed limits, or may be taken as after tax cash to be added to monthly salary.
- Retirement plan with TIAA, with a 3% employer contribution for two years and then 6% employer contribution after two years, irrespective of employee contribution.
- A tuition benefit (50% discount) is offered for one qualified child attending Burgundy for children of 75% to full-time employees only. (Fac-staff children are eligible for additional financial aid also.)
