The Dean of Students supports the overall experience and progress of all students in the Upper School. The Dean of Students ensures a positive climate and student culture. The Dean of Students embraces the vision, mission, core values of the school and the portrait of the Flint Hill student. The Upper School Dean of Students reports to the Director and Assistant Director of the Upper School and is a twelve-month administrative position.
Responsibilities and Duties
Leads and coordinates the advisory program, including developing advisory curriculum, arranging advisor training and assigning students to advisory
Oversees implementation of Student Digital Portfolios
Prepares and conducts new student orientation, both in the fall and throughout the year as needed
Works closely with the Director of the Upper School, the Assistant Director of the Upper School and Grade Level Deans to implement programming such as Town Meeting, F-Day programs, and student activities
Attends Upper School Administrative team meetings
Participates in Student Support Team meetings
Meets weekly with Grade Level Deans to support and help them in their role
Serves as the Student Council Association (SCA), Clubs and Activities Advisor
Coordinates student leadership initiatives, including annual Leadership retreat and continued student leadership development, programming and curriculum
Coordinates student details of Commencement
Organizes Field Studies
Oversees the system for attendance and all minor disciplinary infractions, dress code violations etc. and manages weekly and Saturday detentions
Supervises the Upper School Learning Commons
Manages information on Upper School faculty and staff group page
Coordinates with the Communications and Marketing Department to keep information on the Resource Board current
Works directly with the Administrative Assistant to the US Administration to create the Morning Report
Works directly with the Administrative Assistant to the US Administration to create the Upper School Calendar
Plans, coordinates and chaperones school related activities, field trips, school dances and the prom
Responsible for information on the Upper School marquee and information on TV monitor in the Commons.
Responsible along with Grade Level Deans, on a rotational basis, to greet students upon arrival to school.
