The Academic Resource Teacher job description calls for an individual who is able and prepared to provide support to students who are struggling academically. This teacher would work with an identified group of students (Grades 1-6 primarily) referred by the school’s Interdisciplinary Team and work very closely with teachers, support educators, and directors.
The Academic Resource Teacher works with students, both directly and indirectly, to provide academic support; he or she will typically be assigned a caseload and works with multiple students and teachers each day.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities of an Academic Resource Teacher
Works a flexible schedule that will likely offer support services within our day and boarding programs.
Works with students, teachers and other faculty to create strategies that promote a greater chance of academic success.
Implements intervention and advising strategies for teachers and students alike.
Addresses poor habits relating to time management, lack of motivation, academic deficiencies and issues with goal setting.
Helps students develop learning preferences for more effective studying.
Assists teachers with preparing students for standardized testing.
Helps teachers and staff in the identification of students who would benefit from intervention.
Utilizes effective tutoring resources to help students correct their challenges with learning.
Establishes positive relationships between students, teachers, parents, leadership, and others in order to ensure a collaborative effort.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Demonstrates the ability to work with elementary school aged children who are experiencing various learning challenges.
Experience writing student learning plans.
Possesses excellent teaching skills and the ability to intervene when children fall behind their peers academically.
Current with research-proven intervention programs and strategies.
Exhibits outstanding organization and time management skills for managing workload.
Displays highly effective communication skills geared to various age groups.
Is able to work well independently and with very limited management.
Possesses the ability to make decisions based on data and observations.
Demonstrates the ability to use multiple techniques to help students develop study, learning and testing skills.
Christina Seix Academy is a, elementary and middle school environment. The Academic Resource Teacher may be required to travel between buildings on campus throughout the course of the day. While the majority of his or her work is completed during our day or boarding program hours, he or she will often need to work from home or an office in order to research student performance or create learning plans.
Physical and Emotional Demands:
Work is active; it may require long periods of standing and walking, as well as occasional sitting, reaching at or above shoulder height, twisting, pushing/pulling and stooping/bending/lifting to perform activities with students and staff; must be able to work in an open-concept environment where noise and other activities may at times interfere with concentration. Must be able to alter plans/routines when unexpected, stressful situations and multiple interruptions occur without projecting stress/frustration that would adversely affect the work environment.

Education and Experience
A Master’s degree in a relevant field or 3-5 years experience in a similar role is strongly preferred. In order to work as an Academic Resource Teacher, an individual must possess at least a Bachelor’s degree in education from an accredited college or university. He or she must also possess a teaching license in his or her state of employment as well as certification in special education. Bilingual or multilingual are encouraged to apply.
