The Gifted and Learning Specialist (GLS) is a mission-driven individual who follows, models, and embraces Bixby’s mission and values. The GLS fills a critical role at Bixby and makes decisions, based in the best interests of students. This is a faculty position that works closely with the Director of Education and has input on the strategic direction of Bixby. This is a fourday/week position.
This role includes but is not limited to the following:
The GLS brings a high level of knowledge in meeting the needs of students with exceptionalities and who are gifted.
The GLS will spend the majority of his/her time working in classrooms in order to provide support for our students and teachers.
The GLS will create and lead opportunities for additional student support (social groups, lunch clubs, etc.) based on their individual needs.
The GLS is responsible for individual student, classroom-based and team intervention and problem solving.
The GLS is responsible for coordinating services with outside providers and families (OT, therapy, etc.) to strengthen the school/home connection.
The GLS supports systematic behavior management and social/emotional differentiation and intervention.
The GLS holds an important strategic voice in implementing the Evolution in Excellence vision.
The GLS will collaborate with Head of School and administrative team to identify school-wide priorities and action steps.
