The Nightingale-Bamford School, an academically rigorous college preparatory K-12 girls’ school, seeks an innovative and energetic Spanish teacher who specializes in Middle and Upper School second language acquisition pedagogy. This full-time position is for dynamic educators who provide creative approaches to teaching communication skills for students in grades 5 – 12. The ideal candidate is an educator who can work within the framework of the existing modern languages program and join a team of collaborators to develop new ideas for the curriculum as it expands and evolves. Reporting to the Head of the Language Department and the Associate Head of School, and member of the modern languages department, this educator should be fascinated by the language-learning potential of girls and young women, collaborative in all aspects of his or her teaching and appreciative of students and colleagues who share diverse styles and backgrounds. Knowledge of curriculum development, experience with technology integration and ability to develop Upper School advanced electives are necessary for this position.
The educator best suited to this position will inspire, encourage and support students in all aspects of second language acquisition - speaking, listening, reading and writing – and provide meaningful, experience-based activities to realize this goal. This educator will also collaborate with colleagues in and outside of modern languages to optimize student outcomes and engage in the community life of the school, whether through coaching, leading clubs and organizations or participating in the advising program.
This position will require a full teaching course load of 4 classes, as well as duties related to school life. The hours for this position are from 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday.
Qualified candidates for this position need native or near-native fluency in Spanish and a bachelor’s degree in a related discipline, master’s degree preferred. Candidates should have a minimum of 3 years of Middle School/Upper School classroom teaching experience as well as excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills.
