The Peck School, a K-8, independent school in Morristown, NJ, is currently seeking an energetic, passionate, and creative music teacher to introduce the fundamentals of music theory and performance to students in grades K through 4. The ideal candidate will incorporate a wide range of instruments into daily instruction, including stringed, wind, and percussion elements, as well as communal singing and dance. Familiarity with an Orff approach to teaching music is a plus. In addition to music instruction, responsibilities will include collaboration across disciplines, nurturing a positive classroom environment, encouraging artistic expression, and contributing to a dynamic arts team. This individual will plan and direct two school-wide concerts during the year and a variety of smaller, grade-specific performances.
All candidates should have a minimum of three years experience teaching music, as well as exceptional communication skills (both oral and written) and facility working with a wide range of technology. Significant recent professional development and knowledge of best practices in music education is essential. A background or degree in music education is required and a master’s degree is preferred.
