Rippowam Cisqua School, located in Bedford, NY, seeks a dynamic educator to teach three sections of 6th grade science on our Upper Campus (Grades 5-9). In addition to teaching, this individual will serve as a 6th grade homeroom teacher. Ideal candidates would also coach one or two seasons of 5th/6th grade athletics.
The 6th grade curriculum focuses on human biology, health, and energy systems. Students explore the anatomy and physiology of human body systems, including the reproductive system and stages of development. In addition to developing curriculum based instructional materials, the candidate must have an comfort and ability to create lab based instruction.
The 6th grade science teacher reports to the Head of Upper Campus (grades 5-9), serves as a key member of the 6th grade team, and works collaboratively with science faculty in grades 5-9.
The ideal candidate will have experience teaching at the middle school level, a keen understanding of the developmental needs of this age group, a collaborative spirit, and a sense of humor.
Candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree, although a Master’s degree or higher is preferred. Rippowam Cisqua is very interested in meeting candidates from a wide range of backgrounds, especially those from groups historically underrepresented in independent schools.
