The Cape Henry Collegiate Performing Arts Department seeks an experienced, student-centered dance instructor to join our team full time beginning in August 2018. Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s Degree and should have a strong ballet background as well as experience teaching a variety of dance styles and techniques at the Lower, Middle and Upper School level. Those candidates with a Master’s degree will be given priority consideration.
Qualified candidates should possess a passion for working with dancers of all levels as well as experience with choreography, performance technology and costuming. In addition, candidates must demonstrate a positive attitude, excellent listening and communication skills, the ability to work collaboratively with others, and a willingness to extend themselves beyond the classroom to support student success. Opportunities are also available to develop summer dance programming in addition to the school year responsibilities.
Major Areas of Responsibility:
Developing and teaching choreography to dancers of various ages and abilities
Collaborating on curriculum and programming with both the performing arts and athletic departments, including work with the Middle and Upper School musical productions
Producing and directing three dance showcases during the school year
Willingness to work on productions outside of regular school hours
Requirements: Successful candidates will have a bachelor’s degree, master’s degree preferred, and at least five to eight years of teaching experience. Excellent written and oral communication skills and a dedication to independent school education are required.
