The overall responsibility of the Assistant College Counselor is to assist students and their parents through various aspects of the college application process, especially the writing process. Additionally, the Assistant College Counselor is responsible for the tracking and editing of all teacher recommendations. The Assistant College Counselor reports directly to the Director of College Counseling.
Provide counseling to juniors and seniors in order to educate and assist them through the college writing process, this includes but is not limited to college essays, writing supplements and resumes.
Responsible for creating and implementing a curriculum for the college essay process.
Help students in developing a topic appropriate for a college essay and provide edits and feedback through completion.
Work individually with students and within the Perspectives in Learning course to assist students through the college essay process.
Support the students in the creation of a resume when needed.
Support students and counselors in editing/proofreading applications when needed.
Manage all components of the teacher recommendation process
Ensure that all forms and recommendations are uploaded into Naviance in advance of any application deadline.
Responsible for establishing and maintaining mutually beneficial relationships with colleagues in order to best assist them in writing their recommendations.
Meet with college representatives who visit campus to gain greater insight into what they are looking for in the writing process.
Maintain open communication with the Director on all aspects of the college writing process, through scheduled meetings and daily follow-ups.
During the summer hours, be a regular presence in the office to ensure consistent and reliable communication between the students, parents and the College Counseling Office. However, schedules are determined according to respective vacation time.
Required to be present at all standardized test administrations offered at the Forman School.
Assistant College Counselor to help with various aspects of the college application process. In depth knowledge of the college application process is not required but strong writing, editing, and communication skills are a must.
Bachelor's Degree required
