We are seeking a talented, effective and dedicated Teacher and Reading Specialist to work to ensure success for all of our students. ULS is seeking a teacher who is passionate about impacting academic achievement and making a difference in the lives of children through high quality instruction.
The expectations are:
Working with individual students.
Student(s) receive reading remediation in an individually planned intervention.
Students also may receive assistance in completing classwork and other assignments, along with lessons to fill gaps for students who may struggle academically for a variety of reasons.
Leadership in the area of literacy. This is accomplished by working with students, teachers and administrators to develop, implement, manage, and evaluate a comprehensive literacy program.
The literacy program includes developmental, remedial, content area, and enrichment reading using literature, content area textbooks, and the basal series.
It also includes the use of the program Daily Grammar Practice and Six Traits + Writing.
Instruct small groups (low or high) from classrooms for regular reading class
Meet with students who are reading significantly lower than peers one-on-one (Academic Support)
Assist teachers adapt lessons to meet the needs of students with learning disabilities
Team teach in the classroom with teachers to provide instruction in reading and writing
Work with struggling students one-on-one for remediation and help in completing assignments as part of the Academic Support Program
Write reports on the progress of students that are part of the academic support program on a trimester or semester basis (depending on division) and send to parents, while filing a second copy with Director of Admissions to be part of package of materials sent on if a student leaves ULS.
Communicate with the parents regularly via conferences, email, and phone.
Assess the reading strengths and weaknesses of students teachers feel are struggling
Assess prospective students in reading and writing
Assess the effectiveness of the reading program
Coordinate meetings on students who are struggling and be lead person on referrals for additional testing
Provide feedback to administration at the end of each year on student reading levels in grades SK-5.
Head the Student Services Committee
Serve as a resource to other teachers
Lead in-service/professional development workshops when appropriate
Work with parents, if necessary, on how to develop good readers.
