New York Military Academy seeks a full-time opening for the 2018-2019 school year, experienced ESL teacher, with the ability to teach one or two sections of Spanish. The successful candidate will have a four-year degree (Master’s preferred) and have teaching experience. The ESL and Spanish teacher is expected to be able to offer classroom instruction in the Academy’s English as a Second Language (ESL) program, as well as all levels of Spanish language.
All teachers will be expected to develop curriculum and assessments for their courses in consultation with other teachers in their department and the academic dean. The course curriculum, any related materials, and assessments are expected to be readily available for review by the academic dean upon request. Teachers will be expected to keep their courses and grades updated in Rediker. Other expectations for teachers would include timely preparation of grades at each marking period, attendance at all faculty meetings and major school functions such as graduation, timely responses to all inquiries made by other NYMA employees and parents, assistance in covering classes for a teacher who is absent, and presence in the morning before classes start and at the end of the day for extra-help sessions with students. Teachers also serve as an advisor to a small group of students, proctor one evening study hall per week, work approximately one weekend per month as part of a weekend activities team, and are encouraged to add meaningfully to the school’s co-curricular programs, either as a coach in afternoon athletics or a sponsor of a school club. Enthusiasm for working with young adults in and outside of the classroom is a must.
