San Francisco Friends School seeks an experienced middle school teacher who is compelled by the school’s mission and committed to exemplary science education. The scope of middle school humanities includes the study of literature and writing, the seven social sciences, and research to investigate questions and communicate understanding. The curricula of all grades includes hands-on projects and group collaboration. Candidates need to have a strong humanities background and be invested in the work involved in team planning.
Responsibilities include close teamwork for curriculum development, committee involvement, student assessment, supervising an advisory group, parent communications, involvement in electives and supervision of students at lunch and recess. The school has programs in outdoor education as well as various curricular and cultural explorations; middle school teachers accompany their students on extended trips locally, nationally, and internationally.
Three or more years’ experience teaching middle school humanities.
Knowledge of current pedagogy and facility with hands-on and project-based instruction.
Openness to Quaker philosophy.
Collaborative and creative team player.
