The director’s primary role is to manage all aspects of the Colgate Wellness Center, providing comprehensive primary health care to our students including evaluation and treatment of acute and chronic conditions, preventative health screenings and health education. Works collaboratively and communicates effectively with all members of our community, parents, physicians and other health care professionals.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Responsible for developing, maintaining and updating school’s health policies and procedures with school administration and medical director.
Provides, oversees and evaluates routine and emergent nursing care to patients in the Colgate Wellness Center (CWC).
Handles necessary protocol regarding State Licensed Infirmary Compliance, including bi-annual state inspection, filings or necessary notifications. Scheduling of annual Fire Marshal and sanitation inspection.
Manages all aspects of CWC nursing staff including recruitment, scheduling, assignment of duties and training. Maintains CWC nursing staff confidential records, including current CT RN licenses, physicals, yearly evaluations
Must have the knowledge, flexibility and ability to fill in and cover any applicable health duties as needed. Including on-call status with flexibility working in a boarding community as needs arise.
Understand, follow and update established procedures for sanitation and hygiene in handling of body fluids, blood borne pathogens according to OSHA guidelines, and the disposal of medical waste; and ensure staff understands, is trained and follows the established procedures.
Oversees proper destruction of expired medications and medical waste procedures.
Manages proper sterilization and maintenance of CWC equipment.
Educates all members of the community on current health concerns, preventative care, etc.
Maintains controlled substance inventory and state’s drug agency’s destruction of unused medicines protocol.
Collects and manages all student health records using Magnus Health; this includes annual compliance for records of immunization in accordance with Section 10-204 a-4 of the State of Connecticut regulations.
Keeps inventory of equipment, medical and all other supplies and orders when necessary.
Runs flu vaccine program for faculty/staff and students.
Bills students for items used and verifies accuracy of billings to student accounts from pharmacies, physicians and outside health centers.
Manages medical equipment loan program for students.
Manages transportation for outside medical appointments.
Serves on various student and community health, wellness and safety committees.
REQUIREMENTS:
Connecticut Licensed, Nurse Practitioner
Minimum of 5 years’ experience in boarding school or college health nursing, pediatric nursing, emergency room, community/public health or other relevant clinical nursing experience.
Must be detailed oriented, through and accurate.
Must possess good judgement, tact, sensitivity and discretion in handling of confidential information, materials and situations. Displays the highest ethical and professional behavior.
Must have the ability to prioritize and effectively manage diverse tasks and multitask in a sometimes stressful environment.
PHYSICAL CONDITIONS:
Ability to independently stand and walk around and up and down stairs across campus.
On campus housing may be provided.
