Description of the Position:
The Sixth Grade Math and Science Teacher is a full-time teaching position. The Teacher is expected to teach four sections of sixth grade science, and one section of sixth grade math. The science curriculum uses FOSS, a research-based curriculum that engages children in active and experiential learning. The Teacher will also be a Home Base teacher (the equivalent of an advisor in an advisory program). The Teacher will report to the Head of the Upper Elementary Division.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Providing feedback to students via formative and cumulative assessments.
Writing short narrative trimester reports and providing grades for students in all sections you teach.
Participating in twice-yearly Parent-Teacher Conferences.
Writing math recommendations for secondary schools for students in the math section you teach.
Collaborating with the 6th Grade Team.
Participating in Overnight Experiencial Education Trips.
Attending Back-to-School Night, Open House, Faculty Workshop Days, Grade-Level & Division Meetings, and all mandatory professional development.
One elective class per year (lasts one trimester)
Morning break duty
Lunch and recess duty
Afternoon carpool duty
Substituting within the Spanish Department when necessary

The ideal candidate will have the following background and qualities, or comparable experience:
A bachelor's degree, preferably in science or math; master's degree preferred.
3-5 years of teaching experience.
Experience teaching in a departmentalizing setting, in either math or science, or both.
Enrollment in, or completion of, a teacher-credentialing program is preferred.
Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with students, colleagues, and parents.
The desire and ability to contribute to student and community life inside and outside of the classroom.
Recognition and promotion of the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion in education.
