Emma Willard seeks an enthusiastic and dedicated instructor to join the Science Department team for the 2018-19 school year. The full-time position will report to the Science Department Chair. S/he will teach four sections of science courses with primary teaching responsibilities in chemistry. S/he should have comfort teaching all levels of chemistry, from introductory physical science to Advanced Placement®. S/he will be responsible for collaborating regularly with science teachers of all levels. Emma Willard’s lab-based science curriculum strives to engage students consistently in hands-on scientific investigation and inquiry learning. In addition to chemistry expertise, priority will be given to candidates with interest and experience teaching physics. The science instructor will contribute to the continuous effort to review, refresh and expand the laboratory program throughout the science curriculum. S/he will be responsible for co-curricular activities (e.g. coaching, after school physical education, advising a student activity group, etc.) that fill the needs of the school and, hopefully, intersect with the interest or expertise of the instructor. Dedication to the holistic wellness of students is essential, as is ability and comfort in frequent communication with students’ advisors and parents.
The ideal candidate would hold a master’s degree in chemistry or education and three years of teaching experience. The candidate should demonstrate excellence in course and laboratory design, planning and implementation. The should have a strong desire to contribute to a collaborative faculty. The candidate should have patience, enthusiasm and the ability to manage priorities and meet deadlines. The candidate should be a strong advocate for all-girls’ education. Finally, this individual should approach their work with a sense of humor and joy.
