Summary: This school leadership position serves as the administrator directing the Early Learning Center and pre-kindergarten grades, closely collaborating with the Head of School and Associate Head of School. Primary responsibilities include supporting students in their academic and social-emotional growth as children, supporting the professional growth of teachers, and partnering with families. Other notable duties include:
Collaborating closely with the Head of School and Associate Head of School to support the whole-child; nurturing the social-emotional growth of individual needs while also developing the cognitive growth of students.
Partnering with the Associate Head of School and other grade-level leaders to ensure that the curriculum in the early years honors childhood through sensory integration play, social emotional competency building, constructivist approaches to project-based learning, and nurturing a sense of belonging in the school community; ensuring that the curriculum honors the School’s mission to encourage creative and courageous learners who are curious and develop a lifelong spirit of inquiry and joy in learning.
Intentionally leading efforts to help students engage in effective learning spaces while thinking of learning environments as the “third teacher” including classroom spaces, common area spaces, and hallways (Gandidni, 1998).
Being present in classrooms as a community member and grade-level leader; giving informal feedback on instruction to classroom teachers.
Building strong relationships with families over a looped, two year period of grade-level leadership.
Collaborating with school leadership to examine enrollment needs while honoring the mission and vision of Beauvoir as it relates to all aspects of the academic program.
Master’s degree in education with at least 9 years of teaching experience.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Demonstrated preparation and skill in working with students from diverse cultural, racial, religious, linguistic and socio-economic and ability backgrounds.
A strong ability to organize work, set and adjust priorities, meet deadlines and execute multiple concurrent tasks; demonstrated ability to anticipate needs and respond accordingly, and to perform with an appropriate degree of initiative.
Ability to work collaboratively with all stakeholders, with specific attention to encouraging parent and community involvement.
Ability to be flexible and to perform other duties assigned by the Head of School.
Joy in teaching, learning, and working with children.
