The Shefa School is a Jewish community day school in Manhattan, currently serving students in grades 1-8 since opening in September 2014. Shefa enrolls children who benefit from a specialized educational environment in order to develop their strengths while addressing their learning challenges. We specifically serve students with language- based learning disabilities who have not yet reached their potential levels of success in traditional classroom settings. About the Position:
The Shefa School is seeking a Lead Science and Math Teacher for September 2018. The position is for the middle school grades (6-8) and can be configured to focus primarily on math and/or science depending on the expertise and experience of the candidate.
The Lead Science and Math Teacher will be responsible for developing curriculum and teaching in the areas of science and math. In addition to developing curriculum and delivering instruction, he/she will be responsible for assessing student learning, managing classroom routines and behavior, building relationships and communicating with families, and collaborating with other faculty. Experience with educational technology and ability to integrate technology into instruction are preferred.
The ideal candidate will have a depth of training, expertise, and passion in the field of science and/or math instruction as well as experience using multisensory instruction and experience in working with students with language-based learning disabilities. We seek teachers who have experience with designing and developing grade-level curriculum. Candidates should demonstrate flexibility and comfort with risk-taking and ambiguity. We seek teachers who thrive in collaborative environments, who are reflective and committed to growth, and who have strong communication skills. Applicants must have at least 3 years of teaching experience and should have or be eligible for a relevant Masters Degree.
