Stone Ridge is seeking a Long Term Substitute Teacher for Upper School English to cover between September 17, 2018 and January 21, 2019. Additionally, s/he would be called upon to confer with the full time teacher preparing for leave throughout the summer (approximately 5 hours of meeting time total).
Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart, a member of the international Network of Sacred Heart Schools, is a Catholic, independent college preparatory school for girls, Grades 1-12, with a co-educational Early Childhood Program, Pre-Kindergarten, and Kindergarten in Bethesda, Maryland. The Upper School English Long Term Substitute Teacher is responsible for teaching Upper School English in alignment with the Goals and Criteria of Sacred Heart Education. Specifically, s/he would teach three sections, likely to include tenth grade English and an upper-level elective. Working closely with colleagues in the English Department and throughout the Upper School s/he creates and updates plans for content, quality, and continuity of curriculum. S/he actively plans with the full time classroom teacher, in advance of her leave; likewise, the Upper School English Long Term Substitute Teacher collaborates with Learning Strategists and Educational Technologists to develop strategies to support all students, and s/he works with the Counseling staff in supporting social-emotional programming. S/he attends all faculty and employee meetings, fulfills other faculty duties, and maintains good communication with families about student progress.

The ideal candidate has experience teaching English in independent and/or Catholic schools and possesses a Bachelor’s degree in a related field; a Master’s degree is preferred. In addition to a strong commitment to students and the ability to motivate and educate in an engaging manner, s/he demonstrates a thorough knowledge of the subject area and a collaborative, collegial spirit. S/he is familiar with Understanding by Design as the School’s pedagogical approach to instruction. S/he demonstrates strong writing and communication skills, a capacity for organization and follow-through, and flexibility.
