Stone Ridge is seeking a Middle School Campus Minister and Library Skills Teacher to begin August 14, 2018.
Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart, a member of the international Network of Sacred Heart Schools, is a Catholic, independent college preparatory school for girls, Grades 1-12, with a co-educational Early Childhood Program, Pre-Kindergarten, and Kindergarten in Bethesda, Maryland. With over 700 students, and rooted in the Goals of Sacred Heart education, Stone Ridge inspires young women to lead and serve, through lives of purpose that integrate faith, intellect, community, social action, and personal growth in an atmosphere of wise freedom.
The Middle School Campus Minister and Library Skills Teacher holds two key roles in the Middle School. S/he is first responsible for supporting the faith development of the Middle School community in alignment with the Goals and Criteria of Sacred Heart Education. S/he collaborates with the campus ministry team, the Director of Liturgical Music, and the Middle School religion teachers in planning and preparing for division and grade level liturgies and prayer services.
In his/her capacity as Library Skills Teacher, s/he provides high-quality resources to support and enhance all Middle School academic programs, prepares students for 21st century research by teaching information and media literacy skills, collaborates with faculty to develop research skills, and provides training for faculty and students. In maintaining a pleasant, scholastic, intellectually stimulating library atmosphere, s/he provides research assistance and ready reference to students and faculty. The Middle School Campus Minister and Library Skills Teacher attends all faculty and employee meetings, serves as a student Advisor, fulfills other faculty duties, and maintains good communication with families about student progress through regular progress reports and responses to parents’ inquiries.

The ideal candidate has experience teaching at the Middle School level in independent and/or Catholic schools. Knowledge and understanding of the Roman Catholic Church, the history and traditions of Sacred Heart education, and Middle School children’s spiritual needs are essential. S/he has strong research, reference, and professional library skills and is highly organized; s/he is able to create an inviting environment that cultivates a culture of discovery. S/he demonstrates some expertise in pedagogy and instruction and is familiar with the model of Understanding by Design; likewise, s/he possesses a capacity for working with a range of learning abilities, and experience integrating appropriate educational technologies into her/his teaching.
