Corlears School, a small New York City independent school located in the lively Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan, is seeking a full-time Learning/Reading Specialist. This individual supports grades K-5 to provide individualized reading and writing support in both push in and pull out models. The LRS, in conjunction with the school counselor, is a knowledgeable resource for our early childhood program supporting faculty and families as they navigate the path of development during ages 2, 3 and 4.
The LRS collaborates with faculty to develop differentiated instruction and creates strong partnerships with families.The LRS is a team member who is comfortable and flexible when working with both faculty and leadership positions.The LRS will report directly to the Dean of Students.

Regular meetings with teachers to support their classroom work and help coordinate necessary supports for student academic needs
Work with parents, teachers, and administrators to resolve issues affecting school and classroom academic performance, keeping social/emotional components in perspective
Weekly meetings with fellow Resource Team Members to discuss and plan for academic, social and emotional student support
Provide direct reading and writing support for students
Collaboratively make referrals for outside support services
Develop strategies to facilitate successful learning and growth
Develop learning plans to establish goals and track strategies to ensure effective support and develop follow-up plans
Demonstrate knowledge and experience working within the Lucky Calkins Reading and Writing Workshop model
Be trained in Orton-Gillingham instruction and have experience creating lesson plans to support struggling readers
Be flexible to work with teaching teams to support classroom instructional needs for individual and small groups of students
Master's in Special Education or related degree, Certified Literacy Specialist
2+ years experience as a Learning/Reading Specialist
