Harvey Performing Arts
The Performing Arts Department operates in The Walker Center for the Arts, a 27,000 square foot facility that has a black box theatre, dance studio, audio and television recording labs, art studios, scene shop, music spaces, and a gallery. The Performing Arts supports studies in music, theater, dance, and media through a process-centered curriculum that encourages exploration and experimentation.
The Performance Arts and Wellness Teacherpresents materials and instruction focusing on movement literacy, motor skills development, fitness, and concentration by providing training in a wide and diverse array of studio-based activities, theater, storytelling, yoga, and dance. The teacher will also explore health topics such as positive psychology, mindfulness, nutrition, relationships, social/emotional intelligence, self-awareness, and confidence.
Duties and Responsibilities
Teach middle school classes in movement, theater, dance, meditation, and yoga incorporating wellness, meditation, mindfulness, and health
Create clear class objectives and goals that produce measurable learning outcomes targeting individual student needs
Establish a supportive learning environment that allows students to explore and take risks
Create class exercises and instruction that offer students techniques to develop their ability to focus, concentrate, and reduce anxiety
Create class exercises and instruction that support performance and studies in the arts
Develop curriculum, ensuring proper articulation from grades 6 through 8 and setting foundational principles for upper school studies
Direct a middle school spring theater production
Assist in department-sponsored events
Additional after-school assignment in yoga/health and wellness
Additional middle school assignments and duties as required

Bachelor’s degree in a related field. Master’s degree preferred
Experience in dance and theater
Experience teaching mindfulness and meditation
Willingness to be part of a collaborative environment and work closely with colleagues and parents
Experience and a desire to work with middle school aged children
Strong computer skills, with particular knowledge of Office, Google Apps, and relevant educational software
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, verbally and in writing.
Ability and willingness to work evenings and weekends periodically when performances or events are scheduled
Positive attitude, flexible approach, and a sense of humor
Valid driver’s license required
