For a position to begin July 1, 2019, Louisville Collegiate School invites nominations and applications for the position of Head of School. Located in Louisville, Kentucky, Louisville Collegiate is the area’s oldest independent school, tracing its roots back to 1915. The school has appointed an interim Head of School for the 2018-2019 school year, who is well known in the community and will continue to embrace the school’s mission of inspiring excellence, extraordinary character, and global citizenship.
Louisville Collegiate School is a community rich in history and built on a tradition of academic excellence. The liberal arts-focused curriculum is intentional, relevant and transformative by design. Beginning in Junior Kindergarten with developmentally appropriate experiential education and concluding with a student-designed experiential Capstone program senior year, the Collegiate curriculum provides numerous examples of the deliberate planning that allows the achievement of curricular goals. Graduates are possessed of an extraordinary academic foundation, remarkable leadership skills, a strong moral compass necessary for lifelong learning, civic involvement and global engagement and are prepared to succeed at highly selective and widely diverse colleges and universities throughout the United States and the world.
The Head exercises vision and creativity in articulating Collegiate’s mission of inspiring excellence, extraordinary character and global citizenship as well as ensuring curriculum and program development that maintains the school’s academic strength. She or he manages the annual budget and plays an active role in institutional advancement. The Head works closely with the Board on strategic issues facing the school. She or he serves as the principal ambassador to the school’s key external constituents – alumni, parents, donors, corporations, foundations, and a diverse public. Direct reports to the Head of School currently include the Associate Head of School; Assistant Head of School, Heads of Upper, Middle and Lower Schools; Chief Financial Officer; Director of Admissions; Director of Academics, Director of College Counseling, Director of Institutional Advancement; Director of Facilities and Maintenance; and Director of Athletics.
The successful candidate will be an experienced leader who can embrace the history and culture of the institution while addressing the challenges and opportunities of a rapidly changing world. The candidate’s administrative background should reflect strong consensus-based decision-making and a clear understanding of the current issues facing independent education. The successful candidate must be able to work collegially and effectively with diverse constituencies and to nurture a joyful connection among them. Candidates must embody the Collegiate Cornerstones of respect, honor, compassion, and responsibility and have the capacity to inspire, motivate, and lead others. The new Head of School should demonstrate a commitment to diversity together with the skills to promote and sustain a compassionate and nurturing community in which each person can feel recognized and valued. At the same time, the Head will need to keep in balance the academic, athletic, artistic, and other needs of students and faculty.
