Middle School Social Studies Teacher

University Liggett School is seeking a full-time, experienced Middle School Social Studies teacher for grades 6-8 for the 2018-19 school year. Teaching five sections of students, this teacher will steward skill growth in history and the social studies, notably including historical and critical thinking, analysis, research, and writing. This position includes collaboration and planning with peers in other divisions. We seek knowledgeable candidates who have experience with and delight in working with middle school students and understand the unique needs and opportunities of the middle grades.
The ideal candidate will possess:
A minimum of 3-5 years of Middle School teaching experience and in a germane content area
a bachelor’s degree in humanities and/or in teaching with an advanced degree strongly preferred
a strong understanding of the developmental needs of middle school students
an innovative approach to teaching, learning, and assessment
facility with technology in the classroom
a desire to engage fully with the Liggett community
a collaborative, inclusive approach to all aspects of school life
Along with core teaching responsibilities, the candidate will serve as a middle school advisor to a cohort of 10-12 students and will be asked to take on extra duties that may include coaching or leading an extracurricular activity.
