Description of Position:
Instruct DK-3rd grade in a co-teaching environment, utilizing FOSS curriculum.
Incorporate lessons that practice and explore the engineering process.
Showcase DK-3rd grade work and collaborate with the science team in planning, organizing, and managing Science Expo.
Collaborate with Associate Science Teacher in planning overall science program and provide support during class time and group projects.
Evaluate and assess student progress in both science and behavioral standards.
Collaborate with other specialists and homeroom teachers to create cross-curricular projects, lessons and/or performances
Communicate in a professional manner with parents, homeroom teachers and administrators regarding the program and student progress.
The science teacher will report to the Head of the Lower Elementary Division.
The ideal candidate will have the following background and qualities, or comparable experience:
Bachelor’s Degree in Science, or related field (Masters and/or Credential preferred).
3-5 years teaching experience. (Experience with young children preferred)
Desire to continue seeking growth opportunities and professional development as a science educator in a school environment.
Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with students, colleagues, and parents.
The desire and ability to contribute to student and community life inside and outside the classroom.
Recognition and promotion of the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion in education.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Providing feedback to students via formative and cumulative assessments.
Writing short narrative trimester reports (as needed).
Participating in twice-yearly Parent-Teacher Conferences (as needed).
Collaborating with the DK-3rd grade level homeroom teams.
Attending Back-to-School Night, Open House, Faculty Workshop Days, Science team meetings & Division Meetings, and all mandatory professional development.
Morning break duty
Lunch and recess duty
Afternoon carpool duty
Substituting within the science Department, when necessary
