Harbor Day School, an independent K-8 school in Corona del Mar, California, seeks an innovative, dedicated, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic full-time middle school social studies instructor to teach U.S. History and Geography. The successful candidate must have a bachelor’s degree and a minimum of two years of experience teaching social studies. The ideal candidate will be able to work collaboratively, possess the ability to use innovative technology, utilize a variety of methodologies and current best practices in the classroom, and have the ability to establish a strong rapport with middle school students. This position also includes advisor responsibilities and teaching of a yearbook elective.
Primary Job Responsibilities:
Teach a full-time course load of four to five middle school social studies classes
Prepare and execute daily classroom lessons and assign appropriate course work
Evaluate student performance
Communicate and conference with parents
Conference with students and colleagues
Collaborate with other teachers to create interdisciplinary units of study
Serve as an advisor for a group of eight to ten middle school students
Serve as a yearbook advisor
Serve as outdoor education chaperone
Coordinate and chaperone annual eighth trip to Washington, D.C.
Contribute positively to the Harbor Day community.
Assist with supervisory duties such as study hall, recess duties, and carpool supervision
