Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Plan and deliver an age appropriate, integrated and experiential French curriculum to children in JK through 6th grade that promotes communication, culture, connections, comparisons, and communities (ACTFL’s 5 C’s).
Create a cultural and theme-based French learning environment that introduces students to the language and culture of French-speaking countries and engages them in learning activities that promote student-centered and age-appropriate oral and written communication in French through creative learning experiences (games, music, dance, art, storytelling, skits, computer applications).
Establish standards of student performance throughout the grades which can be evaluated based on an understanding of continuum of growth, respecting a child’s developmental level and supporting continuous progress as a foundation for learning.
Manage an organized and professional classroom that is conducive to learning and the development of the whole child.
Maintain complete and accurate records of each student’s growth.
Plan, document, and carry out daily lessons.
Facilitate learning for all students using a variety of instructional methods, resources, and technological tools.
Foster a cooperative and respectful partnership with families.
As a teaching specialist, work as part of a cooperative and diverse team of educators and administrators to carry out the mission of the school;
Qualifications -- All candidates must possess:
Excellent communication skills in English and a native or near-native level of fluency (oral and written) in French
At minimum, a Bachelor’s Degree or its equivalent in French
Classroom experience in an early childhood or elementary setting, preferably in a progressive learning environment
Ability to use technology to enhance effectiveness of learning/instruction/ assessment
Effective classroom management skills
Capable interpersonal skills
Preferable demonstration the following key skills:
Understanding of multiple learning styles and child developmental theory
Ability to differentiate instruction to address individual learning needs
Ability to plan a thematic curriculum, partnering with classroom units of study
