Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy (FSHA) is a Catholic, Dominican, independent, college-preparatory high school whose mission is to educate young women for a life of faith, integrity and truth. We are currently seeking a computer science teacher for the 2018-2019 school year. The ideal candidate will be highly motivated with experience using educational technology and a passion for teaching young women.
FSHA educators are members of a dynamic learning environment. They are engaged in a 1:1 MacBook program, curriculum/ programming redesign and mapping, and teacher-driven professional learning communities. In addition to developing and delivering an intentionally designed curriculum dedicated to teaching and learning in a supportive and collegial atmosphere, our faculty shares out on best practices and instructional technology strategies via blogs, small group learning sessions, and visits to each other’s classrooms.
We seek educators who are able and eager to collaborate with colleagues and students on interdisciplinary research projects and have experience with instructional technology and innovative teaching strategies. All faculty are involved in co-curricular programs and should share in a commitment to a holistic approach to educating our young women.
Job Duties and expectations:
Teaches computer science courses and develops 2-year plan for increased computer science offerings
Provides innovative and creative commitment to STEM education and an overall passion for project or problem-based learning with real-world application.
Prepares computer science course scope and sequences as well as create comprehensive course curriculum maps.
Explore other models for computer science education including the national Project Lead the Way curriculum.
Maintain/redevelop pathways between computer science classes
Participates in professional learning communities
Member of the Curriculum Board and Department Chairs group
Redesign Programming I & II for UC approval
Moderator of the Code Crew (PlusOne)
Manages Computer Science Department Budget
Two years of experience teaching programming and physical computing in a high school or middle school environment preferred
Willingness to participate in ongoing training and certification in the field of computer science education
Bachelor's Degree (Master's degree in Science, Computer Science, Engineering or Education a plus)
Ability to collaborate with other department chairs
Experience with and openness to using instructional technology
Excellent classroom management, communication and organization skills
