Friends’ Central School, an independent, Quaker day school founded in 1845 and serving around 800 students in Nursery through grade 12, seeks a part-time Latin teacher for the Upper School (grades 9-12). The Upper School Latin teacher will be part of a collaborative N-12 World Languages Department.
The ideal candidate will be creative, passionate about Latin and classical studies, and engaged in the school community.
Essential functions of the role include:
Planning and teaching one section of Latin 2/2 Advanced and one section of Latin 3/3 Advanced
Giving feedback to students and their parents in the form of grades, as well as narrative reports
Collaborating with the Advanced Latin Literature teacher
Meeting regularly with the World Languages Department Chair
Interested in integrating Latin and classical culture with other disciplines
Bachelor’s degree in Latin, Classics or Comparative Literature, with demonstrated ongoing commitment to classical studies
Experience teaching in a high school or college preferred
Eager to accommodate curriculum to individual learning styles
