This is a full time, 10-month teaching position for a passionate, energetic, and creative individual to lead Art instruction for Lower School and Middle School students. KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
Teach the elements and principles of art and design to K-4th grade, and as an elective to 5th-8th grade students
Engage students in learning different skills and techniques including drawing, painting, lettering, sculpting, and knowledge of art history, as well as the ability to make qualitative judgments about art
Develop and implement an Art curriculum that will enhance technical skill, art appreciation, and an understanding of the process of creating the work of art
Work collaboratively with Fine Arts Team and Classroom Teachers to implement arts integration into the grade level curriculums effectively and purposefully
Communicate with parents of art students regarding expectations, events, and scheduling as needed
Coordinate art displays with the Fine Arts Director for campus showings during concerts, drama performances and other key campus events
Design and create sets for K-8 Fine Arts productions.
Explore possible additional venues for opportunities for student art displays
Inventory and store all art supplies used in the art curriculum. Order/restock materials at the end of each year.
Maintain an organized and neat classroom
Maintain clear, complete grade records and communicate clearly, regularly, and tactfully with parents of art students
Prepare mid-quarter progress reports and report cards
Participate in divisional and full faculty meetings and serve on faculty committees.
Attend divisional and school-wide required events (i.e open houses, curriculum night)
Dress and behave professionally as outlined in the faculty handbook
Present a positive image of Charlotte Preparatory School to the outside community, including social networking sites

A bachelor’s degree in Visual Arts and/or Art Education required; Masters degree preferred
A minimum of 3 years teaching experience as an art teacher across multiple grade levels and in an independent school is preferred.
A valid teaching certificate is strongly encouraged
Knowledge of the elements and principles of art and design
Experience in utilizing artistic skills such as drawing, sculpture, painting, and set design
Be approachable, accessible, and visible at campus fine arts events
Positive, enthusiastic, flexible and warm personality
Be a life-long learner who is committed to the success of the student
Be compassionate with students at all levels of learning of art
Strong work ethic, proactive, and success-oriented
Strong communication and organizational skills with high levels of attention to detail

A strong desire to participate in the community of the school, and work with staff and parents on projects throughout the year
The ability to build a strong rapport with colleagues and serve as a collaborative team player
Utilize technology to support instruction and assessment when appropriate
Strong command of classroom management. Proven ability to establish and consistently follow through on classroom expectations to ensure safe and appropriate behavior.
Ability to see the needs and growth potential of the art program
Experience in displaying student art in exhibits both on campus and through various venues within the local community
Ability to share his/her talent with the school community
