This is a full time, 10-month teaching position for a passionate, energetic, and creative individual to lead Drama instruction to Lower School and Middle School students.

He or she will work with other teachers and staff as a contributing team member to present a cooperative and positive work environment. KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
Develop a strong theatre arts curriculum for grades K-8. This includes, but is not limited to, creative dramatics, basic acting technique, improvisation, technical theatre, foundations of theatre history, and playwriting
Engage students in learning theater performance, technical skills, and the ability to make qualitative judgments about performances
Work collaboratively with Fine Arts Team and Classroom Teachers to implement drama integration into the grade level curriculums effectively and purposefully
Communicate with parents of drama students regarding expectations, events, and scheduling as needed
Coordinate performances with the Fine Arts Director regarding concerts, drama performances, and other key campus events
Design and create sets and props with Art teacher for K-8 Fine Arts productions
Gather scripts, licenses, costumes, props, and other articles used in stage productions
Explore additional opportunities for students to both perform and experience theatrical performances
Maintain an organized and neat classroom and costume and prop closet
Maintain clear, complete grade records and communicate clearly, regularly, and tactfully with parents of drama students
Prepare mid-quarter progress reports and report cards
Conduct after-school rehearsals for fall and spring drama productions
Participate in divisional and full faculty meetings and serve on faculty committees.
Attend divisional and school-wide required events (i.e. open houses, curriculum night)
Dress and behave professionally as outlined in the faculty handbook
Present a positive image of Charlotte Preparatory School to the outside community, including social networking sites

A bachelor’s degree in Theatre Arts and/or Theatre Education required; Masters degree preferred
A minimum of 3 years teaching experience as a drama teacher across multiple grade levels and in an independent school is preferred.
A valid teaching certificate is preferred
Knowledge and experience in instruction of the elements of a theatre curriculum
Experience in performing as a professional, creating and casting dramatic and musical productions, and set design.
