As the Director of Financial Aid, this person is responsible for all aspects of the new and returning student financial aid and merit award process. This person works closely with senior school leadership and the Admission Department in determining merit and need based financial aid for new and returning students. As the Director of the GOAL program, this person is responsible for all aspects of the GOAL program including assisting current GOAL participants and increasing the number of GOAL participants. The Director of Financial Aid and GOAL reports directly to the Assistant Head of School for Finance and Operations but will provide direct support to the Director of Enrollment Management and the Chief Advancement Officer.
Responsible for the annual distribution of need based and merit based financial aid for both new and returning students. For new students, the Director of Financial Aid works closely with the Admission Office to coordinate distribution of aid to the most desired students. Serves as chair of the Financial Aid Committee.
Works with the Advancement Office to assist in the distribution of endowed scholarship money, based on scholarship restrictions and donor intent.
Advises families, both new and returning, regarding financial aid application requirements and deadlines. Monitors review process for families in special circumstances; and manages financial aid appeals process.
Coordinates and manages Darlington’s relationship with the SSS financial aid processing system. Analyzes data reported by SSS to make financial aid decisions. Responsible for maintaining and analyzing historical award data.
Prepares discounting reports and analyzes data for review by school senior leadership.
Assists with the maintenance of and adherence to admission policies and standards.
Responsible for notifying and assisting returning GOAL contributors.
Responsible for growing the number of individual and corporate GOAL contributors.
Works to identify new students eligible for GOAL awards as well as working with returning GOAL families.
Coordinates all documents that have to be submitted to GOAL.
Assists Business Office as a member of the Business Office team.
Assists Advancement department as needed as an external affairs professional.
Participates in the life of the school as expected of a Darlington staff member.
3-5 years of related experience or finance/accounting experience
Knowledge of Excel and Word necessary
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Excellent written, verbal, communication and interpersonal skills
Professional, efficient and well organized
