The Dean of Students is an Upper School Administration position, which reports to the Assistant Head of Upper School and works closely with faculty and the administrative team. The Dean of Students guides students in the upper school and supports their academic and social development. The Dean of Students is responsible for all issues relating to the well being of the students during their attendance at the school.
Duties and Responsibilities
Support students in navigating the expectations and responsibilities of upper school.
Maintain student discipline and follow-through with correspondence and record keeping relating to discipline.
Collaborate with classroom teachers and the Upper School administrative team to promote a positive environment.
Attend introductory meetings with incoming families. Gather and share as appropriate academic, developmental, and social/emotional information.
Schedule special student programs and activities in concert with Upper School Administration
Keep the division head fully informed on student issues and all other relevant matters pertaining to school life.
Facilitate communication among classroom teachers, advisors, administration, and families.
Be responsible for establishing and articulating guidelines for proper student conduct and dress, maintain student discipline consistent with school policies, monitor student adherence to established school rules, and maintain accurate records of student attendance, behavior, and citizenship.
Encourage student development and addresses student issues and needs.
Perform other duties as determined by the Head of Upper School.
Bachelor’s degree. Master’s degree in education-related field preferred.
Counseling experience a plus.
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, verbally and in writing.
Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and follow-through.
Ability to collaborate with faculty, staff, admin, and parents.
Positive attitude, flexible approach, and a sense of humor.
