Summers-Knoll School, a pre-K - 8, progressive, independent school in Ann Arbor, Michigan, has an exciting opportunity for a middle school teacher interested in working in a project and place based school setting. The 5th and 6th grade Lead Teacher for the Humanities is responsible for the planning and implementation of a project based humanities curriculum for the 5/6 team (~14 students at a time, total of 28 students, overall), for managing and leading all aspects of a mixed age 5/6 homeroom and for collaborating closely with the other 5/6 Math/Science teacher, as well as other teachers in the school.

A background in the developmental needs of 5th and 6th grade age level
A passion for working with young people
Experience in project based teaching practice and the planning and execution of projects

A valuing of the outdoors as part of a K-8 education
Strong writing, speaking and listening skills
An ability to deal with ambiguity; a problem solving mindset; generosity of spirit; a team mentality and, a sense of humor
A degree in a humanities related field, or the ability to demonstrate strong content knowledge in the humanities
A degree in education or demonstrated success as a teacher
