Bernard Zell Anshe Emet Day School seeks an experienced, innovative, and energetic Lower School (grades 1-4) teacher to join our expert faculty beginning in the fall of 2018. The teacher would be a part of a collaborative Lower School team that includes both general and Jewish studies faculty.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Teach, guide, and inspire students in general studies subject areas (reading, writing, math and social studies).
Differentiate instruction for a wide range of students’ abilities and interests.
Maintain strong lines of communication with families about student progress via online updates, phone calls, emails and in person.
Responsible for narrative and objective progress reports four times a year and conferences two times a year.
Collaborate with Student Services, Specials teachers, Hebrew and Jewish Studies teachers, and outside specialists to coordinate individual educational plans.
Fulfill all teacher duties and responsibilities as outlined in the Bernard Zell Faculty Handbook.
Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in Education preferred.
At least two (2) years of lead teacher classroom experience required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :
Knowledge of Constructivist philosophy and approach.
Preferred knowledge of and experience with Lucy Calkins Reading/Writing Workshop model.
Knowledge of Common Core Math Standards.
Preferred experience with Responsive Classroom.
Appreciation of a diverse, pluralistic Jewish community.
Ability to embrace technology and new ways of extending students' learning and creative capacities; knowledge of interactive whiteboard technology, iPads and Chromebooks.
Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and administration to support and extend the objectives of the curriculum.
Experience providing a nurturing, creative, and inclusive environment for students in order to create a strong classroom community.
Excellent communication and organizational skills.
Knowledge of and experience with the cognitive, social, and emotional issues of elementary aged students.
Willingness to learn and grow professionally.
Willingness to collaborate with Jewish and General Studies teaching teams.
