Kingswood Oxford School is seeking an Assistant Director of College Advising. This is a 12-month, full time, exempt position. The Assistant Director will be responsible for working with an assigned group of juniors and seniors and their parents as they navigate the college search and application process. The Assistant Director will work closely with his/her advisees as they explore and select colleges, complete applications, write essays, and work on other aspects of the application process. In addition, the Assistant Director will write individualized letters of recommendation for his/her advisees, work with coaches, teachers, advisors and other KO community members who can help support his/her advisees. The Assistant Director will work collaboratively in an office of four as well as with other key departments at the School. Although the Assistant Director will work mostly with juniors and seniors, he/she will also collaborate with the rest of the College Advising staff in planning and executing programming and events for freshmen and sophomores.
A Bachelor’s degree
At least three to five years of college advising experience, preferably at an independent school, or at least three to five years of experience with college admissions
Comfort with a wide variety of technological tools; strong skills using Microsoft Office, web-based programs, and internet research strategies; comfortable learning new software
Exceptional interpersonal and written communication skills
Interest and enthusiasm for working with adolescents and their parents
Ability and willingness to work in a highly collaborative team environment
Calm and supportive manner with all constituencies; friendly and approachable style
Creative problem solving skills, resourcefulness, attention to detail
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects according to deadline
Ability to work effectively with a diverse group of people
Ability to travel a few times a year to visit colleges, attend conferences and participate in other professional development opportunities; occasional evening and weekend hours are required
Other desired skills and experience:
Knowledge of Naviance, Google Applications and/or Blackbaud’s Education Edge
Experience with college-bound athletes
Experience working with international students
Knowledge of and familiarity with college admissions offices and personnel
