Poly Prep CDS seeks an Interim English Department Chair. This is a one-year appointment commencing in the fall of 2018. The Interim Chair is eligible to apply during a fall search process for the permanent position.
The successful candidate will be a dynamic and experienced educator with deep understanding of curricular and pedagogical practice, one who can model teaching at the highest levels of instruction.
Being a model teacher and thought leader who inspires and effectively communicates;
Supporting faculty classroom teaching, professional development, and scholarship;
Leading regularly scheduled department and other meetings;
Promoting individual goal-setting and forward planning;
Observing instruction and providing necessary feedback towards professional growth;
Leading curricula, assessment, and policy that serves a range of abilities and aptitudes;
Working with families and administration to address concerns of students who struggle;
Supporting inclusive practice, one that weaves diversity and contemporary experience into teaching;
Organizing and planning necessary administrative tasks and functions;
Interpreting and analyzing and making appropriate use of student performance data;
Demonstrating knowledge of NCTE and other state and normed objectives;
Ensuring learning outcomes are benchmarked against local and national standards;
Teaching three Upper School classes in core and elective offerings.
Advising a group of (7-10) students.
Attending community events throughout the school year;
Attending and contributing to meetings during and after the school day, including but not limited to: department, committee and division meetings.
Performing other duties as assigned by the Academic Dean and Head of School.

Successful teacher with extensive experience in a strong secondary school setting. (Some Middle School experience is preferred.)
Experience with curriculum development in literature, rhetoric, and writing. (Strong background preferred in the teaching of writing.)
Broad understanding of American and English literature as represented in age-appropriate canonical and popular as well as adolescent and mature texts.
