Professional Opportunity: Middle School (6-8) Social Studies Teacher (0.8 FTE)

Saint George’s School seeks a Middle School Social Studies teacher for the 2018-19 school year beginning July 1, 2018. Successful candidates will have a demonstrated expertise in their disciplines, love working with adolescents and their parents, have a strong understanding of pedagogy, a desire to collaborate closely with colleagues, and an interest in encouraging cross-curricular connections. Instructional classes to consist of, but are not limited to, the following: World Geography and U.S. History.
Serve as a student advisor for 11-13 students and supervise a daily study hall/tutorial.
Create a positive, nurturing classroom environment characterized by autonomous learning and respect.
Design and develop creative and challenging curricula using an integrated approach that meets the needs of individual students.
Utilize different strategies to meet students’ skill levels, learning styles, and social/emotional needs.
Seek out and incorporate innovative digital methodologies in order to maximize utilization of 7th grade one to one device program for US History, 2018-19, and potentially for 8th grade World Geography, 2019-20.
Work closely with other department and division members to create the communication and cooperation that will create a strong program K-12.
Communicate effectively with a supportive and active parent community.

Bachelor’s degree or master’s degree in History or Education required
Teaching certification and 3 – 5 years of experience preferred
